GOALS & OBJECTIVES

WHAT
The Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) oversees transportation planning for the Fayetteville Urban Area. FAMPO is preparing an update to their Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), titled Sandhills Safe & Connected, to address all transportation forms and elements through the year 2050 (streets and highways, public transit and transportation, freight, pedestrian and bicycle, safety, and security) and meet the local, state and federal requirements. The study area encompasses the Cities of Fayetteville and Raeford, the Towns of Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Eastover, and Parkton, and portions of Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, and Robeson Counties. View the project Goals and Objectives here.
HOW
The MTP update (Sandhills Safe & Connected) includes technical work (data gathering, future growth projections, assessment of auto, truck, rail, air, pedestrian, and bicycle modes), identification of short and long range transportation projects, and development of a final plan for review and comment. Additionally, the process includes continuous opportunities for the public to provide comments and participate in the development of this community plan.
WHY
FAMPO is required to update their transportation plan every four to five years. The last plan update was in 2019. Through this effort and with your input, we will identify effective ways to build upon our existing transportation system and make strong investments for the future that provide transportation choices for the community.
